Why is it hard for me to find ink for my cannon mp 500 printer? It is an excellent printer.?

but it is very hard to find ink for it and the places we go charge alot for it. I have been on the internet looking for better prices, but nobody seems to have the mp 500 ink at all, or they don’t even have it on discount, so it is better to go to the store for now. What makes my printer so special?
