With more and more of us understanding the serious consequences
of suntanning, we are looking for alternatives. One of the most
interesting and improved alternatives is to get a spray tan.

Do any of you remember the first Self Tanners that hit the
shelves many years ago – wella you became instant orange. Well
we’ve come along way babe! The hottest thing to hit the beauty
seen is “spray tanning.” You really need to check out what’s
available these days!

Spray tan in a can is the latest in sunless tanning technology.
Forget lotions or pump sprays that leave uneven tones. Although
lotions have come along way from the carrot orange days, some
can still leave you with orange under tones. Aerosol tanning
sprays can leave you with a perfect looking, no hassle, even
tan. Spray tan in a can is the safest, easiest way to get a
perfect sunless tan at home! No more harmful UV rays or trips to
the tanning bed.

You will want to find a reputable shop. Ask around, word of
mouth is always a good way to find out what salon does the best
spray tanning. Once you’ve chosen a salon book your appointment.
If your planning to have a spray tan for a special event, say
like your wedding, then I would suggest a trial run about a
month prior. If you like the results you can book again, if you
don’t then I suggest trying another salon.

On the day of your appointment shower and exfoliate. Use a
loofah and shower gel and body scrub to remove all your dry/dead
skin. This will ensure an even application.

At the salon they will give you instructions, often these
instructions are in the form of the video. The whole procedure
and what you need to do will be explained to you.. Some
important things to remember: 1. hold your breath when the spray
is going off (for about 14 seconds and its very challenging)

2. follow the instructions “exactly” as to where to apply the
lotion to block the spray on your feet and hands. You need to
block the spray from your hands and feet because these areas
have excess wrinkles and creases, so if they are sprayed you
will get a tell-tale white veiny looking areas in the creases.

3. when the spray stops you need to turn around

4. when you leave the spray booth you will be given towels to
wipe down and remove any excess spray. Make sure you wipe not
blot.

The color from your spray tan will last anywhere from 7-10 days.
The treatments are still a bit on the pricey side at around
$40.00 a treatment, so this isn’t something you get done on a
regular basis, more like a treat or for a special occasion. Some
companies sell packages that give you a reduced rate.

It is important to apply plenty of moisturizer on a regular
basis to the extent the life of your Spray on Sun Tan. If you
have very dry skin use a deep moisturizer. Blend any moisturizer
into the skin and do not wipe it off as this will remove some of
your spray tan. Baths, spas and swimming in chlorinated pools
will reduce the life of your tan.

Tips for spray tanning… 1. All the spray tanning in the world
will do you no good if it attaches itself to dead skin that is
about to come off your body so be sure to Exfoliate! Use a
loofah sponge in the bath the night before you spray tan session
to remove these dead skin cells.

2. Choose your clothes carefully. Pick clothes that cover all
the parts of your body you won’t be tanning. Select tight
fitting clothes so that the tan spray cannot go under your
sleeves. Choose dark colored clothes, since spray tanners will
stain clothing.

3. Follow the instructions! Provided by the Salon. Self-tanning
booths typically have a handout, so read up, and make sure you
know what to do!

4. For 30-60 seconds after a self-tanning booth application you
need to Stand still. This will ensure that your tan dries
evenly. Although it does take longer than 30 seconds for your
spray tan to dry completely, the first minute or more is when
you run a real risk of rubbing off the self-tanner before it has
a chance to work.

5. After your spray tan application you will need to Blot your
skin with a towel to catch any drips. 6. Because your feet
normally get less sun than the rest of you, your feet are paler
and may get dark faster, so it is important to Protect your
feet. If you are spraying yourself, go lightly on the feet. If
you are using a salon use the paper booties that are provided to
protect your feet. You can later apply a self tanner to your
feet to give them the appropriate amount of color.

If you’ve got a special event coming up, perhaps a wedding,
prom, or a re-union, spray tanning might be something you’ll
want to try. When done correctly it results in a very natural
looking tan adding summer color to your pale winter skin.

Sitting in the sun-or a tanning bed-is a major no-no. Make bronze from a bottle as natural as bronze from the beach with these top tips!

Take some time
Don’t apply self-tanner when you’re in a hurry. A rush job can cause streaks and spots. And definitely don’t apply the day of the prom; two or three days before is better.

Always exfoliate
Use a body scrub, loofah or plain-old washcloth to remove the top layer of dead skin cells and help self-tanner spread on more smoothly and last longer. Pay extra attention to rough areas like hands, wrists, elbows, knees, wrists, ankles and feet.

Defuzz first
Shaving gets skin even smoother than exfoliating; do it before applying self-tanner not after, which can remove some of your color.

Even it out
Rub hands together after putting tanner in your palms to spread the solution evenly in each hand.

Smooth on circular
Once self-tanner starts soaking into skin, use circular motions to spread it around; different directions help blend better than linear lines.

Work your way up
Doing your upper body first can cause streaks or spots when bending over to apply to your lower body. Start with your feet and legs and work your way up.

Follow the sun’s lead
When self-tanning your face, apply where sun would hit naturally-nose, cheeks, middle of the chin and forehead-then blend by moving toward your hairline.

Practice patience
Wait eight hours after tanning before putting on lotion, showering, sweating or wearing tight-fitting clothes. Wait three hours before applying makeup.

Extra Credit: Use lots and lots of lotion!
After the eight-hour mark, moisturize skin like mad! Self Tanner is dehydrating so lots of lotion will make color last a lot longer!

Moisturize smart
Moisturizer prevents self-tanner from soaking into skin; use it only on areas you don’t want to get unnaturally tan like heels, ankles, tops of toes, knee caps and elbows.

Go with gloves
Orange palms are a dead giveaway that our tan isn’t natural. Snug, disposable drugstore gloves can help keep palms clear.

When using tanning beds properly it will give you a natural look to your wintry pale skin. When exposed to UVB rays it will stimulate and produce skin pigment called is melanin which makes your skin turn dark. Any type of exposure to UVB rays is not good; if you are exposed for any amount of time you will need to have some type of protection. If you have a family history of skin cancer, its all the more reason to take extra cautions. Some older tanning beds use the older style of lamps, these lamps emit UV A rays which is not good for your skin. There have been reports that UV A radiation has been know to cause cancer of the skin. It has been reported that skin cancer is on the rise, with the ozone depleting and the popularity of tanning beds.

Today, devices that emit a combination of UVA and UVB are predominantly used. If you expose your skin to UV rays many different types of complications can occur, you could get skin rashes, skin will age you might get skin cancer. Exposure to UVB can cause skin burning; the best protection against this is to cover up your skin. 99% of the sun’s UV radiation at sea level is UVA. The UV that is dangerous to your skin is the UVB; this is the rays that can cause aging, blotches, wrinkles and even cancer. It is the UVA and UVB rays that are the most harmful to our skin. UVB is easier to protect against than UVA, but both cause very real damage.

When exposing your skin to UV rays it is very possible it will cause premature spots, blemishes, aging and maybe skin cancer. Using a bit of precaution such as purchasing a good tanning lotion or attending one of your local sunless tanning salons is a good first step to protecting yourself. Tanning beds have become very popular because everyone wants a natural looking tan, many people have been purchasing home beds to tan themselves.

When tanning lotions first came out on the market they made everyone look orange, today they improved this and now people look like they really have a tan. Today the Self Tanners come in many shades, since everyone does not have the same skin pigment it is easier to match your skin type. When using tanning sprays or self tanners the color does not last very long, on average it lasts about 5 to 7 days. Getting a tan without the sun has becoming very popular because it reduces the risks of getting skin diseases. Tanning sprays have become more advanced since they were developed, they protect your skin against the sun and give you a tan without needing the sun, and some even have moistures in them to enrich your skin.

One of the drawbacks of these tanning lotions that dye your skin is that they do not last very long and you need to keep applying it to keep the color constant. The reason for this is because your skin continuously sheds old skin and replenishes your body with new skin so you will loose the color from the tanner. Also, you should test the tanner on a hidden part of your body before applying it over all of your skin.

I have tanned for ever and I don’t want to end up all nasty when I get older, so I’m in search for the best Self Tanner out there. I want something that doesn’t turn you funny colors and that isn’t super expensive. If you have a favorite please tell me as much as you can about the product, where I can find it and the price.

Find a tanning salon with the spray on tanning booths. It takes about two minutes and sprays you from head to toe. You can also choose the level of darkness you want to be, if at any time you feel you are to dark, just take a light shower to rise some of it away. your tan will last about a week with your daily activities. The cost can be between $20.00 – $30.00. But it is sooo worth it. (Paris Hilton only does the spray on tan)

If you want your face to look tanned and beautiful now, without causing it to look spotted and wrinkled later, you’re going to have to use a self tanning, sunless lotion. The good news is there are new ones that don’t scream “FAKE TAN”. Here’s dermatologist and author Dr Doris J Day to show how to choose and apply sunless tanners to your face.

Sunless tanners: How to apply sunless tanning lotions to your face

Lots of Sunless Tanning Products to Choose From:
There are many products to choose from for your body and your face. The products for your body are a little bit richer than the ones for your face, while facial products have been specifically formulated to ensure that they don’t block your pores or irritate your face.

Lots of Color Tones to Choose From:
As for what color tone to choose, sunless tanning products come in different levels for all different skin tones—light, medium and dark. If you aren’t sure what product to use, start with the lightest product. You can always add more sunless tanning lotion to your skin later. In fact, you can apply the product in layers every day or even every few hours to build up to the skin color you want. And don’t worry – your face is not going to turn orange from using these tanners. You will have a very natural healthy glow if you use these products correctly.

Heres how you get started:

Exfoliate the Face First
The most important thing you must do before applying a sunless tanner is to exfoliate your face. It is critical that you do this before applying the lotion. The exfoliation process gets rid of the upper layer of dead skin. Dead skin is a problem when using a sunless tanning lotion because it can absorb more of the product and leave your face looking streaky or uneven.

Your Face – You Only Need a Little
You should put about a dime-sized portion of the lotion in your hand and then with your other finger dab it around your face so you get an even distribution for even tanning. The lotion should be blended in so you have full and even coverage all over your face. Cover the orbit of your eye, right where the curve of your eye is, but not to your eyelid. Once you’ve done that, massage the product down toward your jaw line—blend it down gently. Next you should massage the sunless tanner into your forehead. You should continue to blend it in on your forehead and then gently and feather it to your ears and then finally massage the product down to your jaw line. And you are done. You really only need about a dime-sized amount to cover your whole face.

Thats it! Enjoy your beautiful tinted skin. No one will know it wasnt from the sun. But remember these tanners do not protect your skin from the sun. Its always important that you use sunscreen to protect your skin from the damaging rays of the sun.

I want it to look as natural as posible. I use a moisturizer/self tanner by dove. It seems I can never get it right. There is always something wrong. I don’t want to use spray on Self Tanner. Oh and if you have use any great products please tell me about them. The product I’m using now doesn’t smell like self tanner, but it has a really strong sent so I’m looking for one that doesn’t smell much.

you need to apply it lightly with a thin layer of lotion. make sure you use it sparingly around your knees, ankles and elbows or else that area will look darker than the rest of your body. if you want to get a deeper tan, i suggest reapply every 4-6 hrs or so. i use the loreal tanning gel kind, not the lotion.

self-tanner?

Posted In: Self Tanner by admin

I am REALLY pale and want to use self-tanner, but I don’t want to turn orange. Any recommendations?
I tend to burn very easily (I have naturally red hair) and I also know people who have had skin cancer, so I’d like to avoid the sun or tanning salons.

Ive found that the strike gold Self Tanner from bath and body works works really well because Im real pale also. They also make one that has sunscreen called glow and steady which works well. You must exfoliate before you put on the stuff though or it is streaky. get a good body scrub to use. good luck with that hope it works out for ya.
